- JL Kettle (1) retired hurt on ?* from 42/8 to 42/9 (Hit on inside of knee
by bowler Cosstick)
- GHB Gilbert acted as runner for JL Kettle from 42/9.
- While JL Kettle batted with GHB Gilbert as runner he moved out of his
crease and G Marshall removed a bail, claiming the ball was not dead.
Umpire Marshall (nephew of the Victorian keeper) agreed and ruled the
batsman out, but after strong protests from Ward and his team - as well
as the loss of half an hour's play while the mater was debated - Kettle
was relectantly allowed to continue by the Victorians.
