- Played on the occasion of WG Grace's 50th birthday (July 18, 1898)
- 12th man for the Players was W Rhodes, who also fielded as a substitute
for the Gentlemen
Day 3
- With confusion over the time of stumps most thought that
Kortright and Grace had saved the match when 6:30 pm was reached with
the Gentlemen at 130/9. Play however was scheduled to continue for a
further 30 minutes.
- The last wicket fell with less than 5 minutes remaining for play.
