The South African Cricket Union decided, for the first time, to continue
with the Currie Cup competition during the 1966/67 season despite the presence
of a major touring team, the Australians. However, it would be a restricted
programme, and the A Section would be limited to four teams.
Western Province would be demoted to the B Section, but the B Section champions,
North-Eastern Transvaal, would not be promoted.
