Date-stamped : 16 Dec94 - 14:26 England (M.C.C.) v Central Zone Jaipur, Dec. 3, 4, 5 1976 - Drawn M.C.C. looked set for a win when, having set Central Zone a tar- get of 247 in three and a quarter hours, they had them reeling at 51 for 5, with two hours play left, but Sharma, the Test batsman, and Hanumant Singh held firm till the end. M.C.C. batted through the first day and declared at 260 for 3. Amiss, cheaply dismissed in the opening match, found his feet during an innings of 60 and Barlow, who had not played at Poona, but who had shown exception- al form in the nets, hit a century on his first out- ing. Randall scored attractively. Central ZoneUs spinners had managed to turn the ball on the open- ing day, but there seemed less in the pitch when the home side batted. Still, M.C.C. contained them to a moderate score of 169 for 8. They closed the innings before the start of the last day. Knott opened the M.C.C. second innings with Woolmer. He was pro- moted not only to force the pace, but also to give him an oppor- tunity of playing an innings of some length. He ran rampant, cut- ting, sweeping and pulling in characteristic fashion to reach his century off exactly 100 balls. Woolmer contributed 36 to the opening partnership of 126, which ended just before the declara- tion. He batted without achieving any fluency. Contributed by cp (help@cricinfo.com)
