From M.C.C.`s point of view, the match was notable only  for  the
size  of their total, 401 for 9 declared, the making of which oc-
cupied almost a day and a half and thus ruled out the prospect of
a  definite result. This large score gave them a lead of 173 over
South Zone, who had declared at the end of the first day`s  play.
After  M.C.C. were 35 for two, Amiss and Randall put on 221, each
scoring a century. Against an attack that  was  keen  but   never
dangerous,  they  took their time over their runs, Amiss was four
hours to his hundred and Randall, five minutes longer.
