England's 102 was the lowest total by any visiting Test side in India, lowering Australia's record of 105 in 1959-60 at Kanpur. England's lowest ever total against India was 101 at the Oval in 1971. When 16 in his second innings Ian Botham became the third cricketer to complete the Test double of 2,000 runs and 200 wickets, after Sir Garfield Sobers and Richie Benaud. Botham, in his 42nd Test, also took five wickets in an innings for the 18th time. Benaud's 200th wicket came in his 49th Test, but he had to wait until his 60th Test for his 2,000 runs. Sobers's 200th wicket came in his 80th Test, at the end of which he had 6,913 runs. He reached 2,000 runs in his 23rd Test. Bob Taylor made his 100th dismissal in Test cricket when he caught Kapil Dev in India's first innings, in his 30th Test. He became the fourth England wicket-keeper, and the eleventh in all, to accomplish this feat. Madan Lal's five wickets for 23 runs were his best Test figures, in his first Test since December 1977. These figures are the best analysis for India v England at Bombay and for the match (6-47). Fletcher captained England in a Test for the first time.
