It was the first time England had conceded as many against India. - Geoff Boycott, when he reached 82, broke the world Test aggregate record held by Sir Garfield Sobers. Boycott broke it in his 190th Test innings in his 107th Test match. Sobers had 160 innings in 93 Tests. - When he reached 11 Boycott became the 13th player to record 40,000 first-class runs. - When he reached 79 Boycott completed 1,000 runs against India. - Boycott's stand of 116 with Chris Tavare was his 47th century partnership in Test cricket, a world record. - By adding 128 together Ravi Shastri and Syed Kirmani broke the previous 8th wicket record for India against England, 101 by F. M. Engineer and R. G. Nadkarni in 1961-2. - By adding 104 together Shastri and Madan Lal broke the previous 9th wicket record for India against England of 54 by G. S. Ramchand and S. G.
