Sri Lanka-B in Zimbabwe Mar/Apr 1988 - Tour Summary
Sri Lanka "B" in Zimbabwe Mar/Apr 1988 - Tour Summary
In March 1988, a Sri Lanka B team, captained by Roy Dias and con-
taining six others who had played Test cricket or official one-
day internationals, visited Zimbabwe. An enthralling, five-match
one-day series ended with the tourists winning the deciding game
by 5 runs after the series had been square at two- all. The open-
ing match had set the tone for an exciting series with both sides
scoring 145 in 50 overs and the Sri Lankans, nine wickets down,
being adjudged winners as a result of losing one less wicket.
The three first-class games on tour were drawn against Zimbabwe,
except for a win against Zimbabwe B. The outstanding player in
the series on both sides was Sri Lanka`s Athula Samarasekera. For
Zimbabwe, Eddo Brandes revealed the extent to which he had
developed as an all-rounder with some excellent, hostile fast
bowling and some scintillating, hard-hitting innings.
