Date-stamped : 23 Nov93 - 08:49 Ind v WI, Shj ODI2, 22 Oct 91 India blew out the West Indies today, to send themselves into the Final and effectively shut the West Indies out. For them to make it now, Pakistan needs to lose tomorrow, *and* score less than 198 runs (FLASH: Pakistan is in now: as I'm writing this, they have scored 257/7 in 50 overs, while India is at 230-odd for 5 after 47 overs. Thanks for coming, WI). The unlikely hero today was Sachin Tendulkar, who grabbed 4 wickets in a sensational 10-over spell costing just 34 runs. Not cheap wickets, either: Lambert, Richardson, Logie and Dujon, no less. The West Indies were reeling at 76 for 6, when Arthurton and Bishop (my hero!) put up *some* resistance to the bowling. However, it was too little, too late, as Prabhakar put in his usual emphatic late spell and took both of them caught-and- bowled. Azhar had a great catch to dismiss his counterpart Richardson (again), and had two sensational direct-throw run-outs to boot (the last one being the one to end the innings). Kumble and Raju were incredibly miserly for spinners: 24 and 29 runs respectively in 10 overs. The WI must have been terribly rattled by Tendulkar (a deserving man-of-the-match). India did not work up the least sweat reaching the total. W.V. Raman, of course, flunked his once-yearly tryout by falling to the second ball he faced, but Sidhu and Manjrekar got things go- ing. When both were out within minutes of each other, Tendulkar and Azhar simply dug in again and knocked off the runs at a lei- surely pace, with Tendulkar hitting an emphatic and dazzling four through extra cover for the winning hit. Oh yes, Kapil reached a major milestone: the first bowler in One-Day Internationals to capture 200 wickets. Contributed by probal (probal@*rutgers.edu)
