Date-stamped : 28 Dec93 - 11:54 English County Championship 1991 : Roundup The 1991 county cricket season drew to a close this week with Essex lifting the trophy. It was their 5th championship trophy and their 10th major trophy in 13 years - that, after 103 years of winning absolutely nothing at all! On the last day, Der- byshire pulled off an unlikely victory over Yorkshire to remain in third place. Hants were bowled out in their 2nd innings for 323 (Watkin 3 for 92 and Croft 4 for 119). Glams got the 152 runs that was required in 50 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. Alan Butcher got 58 and young Adrian Dale scored 47no. Leicestershire beat Kent at Canterbury. Kent, who needed 319 to win, were bowled out for 229. Lancs beat Surrey by one wicket at Old Trafford. Lancs needed 181 to win and just made it (181 for 9). Kendrick's 5 for 54 was in vain. Warwicks beat Somerset, but that wasn't enough for them to race to the top spot. Somer- set, who needed 408 to win lost by a _mere_ 5 runs. Harden (68), Tavare (85), and GD Rose (55) could not ensure a Yorks victory. Sussex beat Gloucestershire by 139 runs at Hove.
