Date-stamped : 21 May94 - 02:24 Pakistan v Jamaica, Kingston, March 18-21 1993 Pakistan won by 144 runs The tour`s opening match was a gentler exercise for the Pakistani`s because of an absence of Jamaica`s two Test pace bowlers, Walsh and Patterson, and an uncharacteristically slow Sabina Park pitch. It played like one of their own at home. All the Pakistani`s four first-innings wickets were lost attempting to force the pace, though three chances dropped by Haynes added to the Pakistani`s prosperity. Inzimam-ul-Haq, dropped on 27, went on to 106. Wasim Akram declared midway through the second morning, and his bowlers were held up only by a 5th-wicket partnership of 171 between Davidson and Williams. However, both were out immediately next morning. Despite the unhelpful pitch, Mushtaq Ahmed finished with 5 for 86. The match was thrown open when the Pakistani`s, shuffling their batting order, lost three second-innings wickets for 58. But they recovered their poise and initiative thanks to Asif Mujtaba and Basit Ali. Hitherto unk- nown abroad, Basit drove and cut with power and used a lovely touch to find gaps. Jamaica, chasing 300 in 277 minutes, were never in the race, although Jeffrey Dujon, in his last first- class match, batted with a brief flourish and received a standing ovation.
