Mal Loye (25) and Steve Rhodes (29) shared an unbroken half century stand as the team ground their way to 144-4 at the tea interval. After a promising start captain Hugh Morris Adrian Dale and Alan Wells all fell cheaply to put the tourists in trouble. The prolific John Crawley held the innings together with 49 to take his tour run tally to 724 from just ten knocks. ====> Day 1, MORE Youngster Mal Loye showed maturity beyond his years with a meas- ured innings to rescue England A. The 21 year old Northants star took nearly five hours to carve out an invaluable 71 in a 131 partnership with Steve Rhodes (59 not out). ====> Day 4, 24 Jan 94 England A were denied their 11th tour victory by a dogged last wicket stand from Border. Brenden Fourie and Allen Badenhorst hung on for 29 deliveries in bad light and drizzle to earn their side a draw at 189-9. Peter Such and Robert Croft both went agonisingly close to taking the crucial wicket as Border chased a total of 296 for victory.
