Bombay, Jan 3 (PTI)
Bombay surged to a splendid eight-wicket victory with 1.1 overs
to spare, after conceding a 15-run first innings lead to Saurashtra,
and finished with their league engagements with the first-
ever all-win record in 36 years of the West Zone Ranji Trophy
round-robin series here today.
Bombay pace bowlers Paras Mhambrey, who bagged a career-best
six-wicket haul for 47 runs, and Salil Ankola (4 for 67) used the
stiff breeze blowing across the Wankhede Stadium to good effect
to skittle out the visitors for 190 in the second knock after
Saurashtra began the fourth and final day at 76 for two.
Set a limited overs-like target of 206 to win in 41 overs, Bombay
made 206 for the loss of Zubin Bharucha (4) and Sanjay
Manjrekar (20) in 39.5 overs.
Ravi Shastri, who cracked 93 not out in 123 balls with six
fours and a six, and skipper Sachin Tendulkar, who slammed a
brilliant, unbeaten 80 off just 91 balls with five fours and two
sixes, guided Bombay home to a clean sweep of all four league
ties with an unbroken stand of 148 runs in 169 balls for the
third wicket.
