Date-stamped : 13 Jan94 - 10:38 NZ SHLCUP : Round 8, 11 Jan 94 Central Districts v Auckland, Waikenae Park, Kapiti. Jan 11. Central joined Otago on its early morning journey to Wellington, and then had to endure a further bus trip to the seaside resort of Waikenae on the Kapiti Coast, for that town's first ever Shell Cup Match. Like Otago it was severely handicapped for this round, and like Otago it was easily beaten. There was little evidence of the debacle to come as the in form opening pair of Ingham and McRae put on 47 for the first wicket. However Vaughan and Steve Brown destroyed the middle order with 3 wickets each. Vaughan, the in form skipper and former internat- ional, had the outstanding figures of 3-8 in his 10 overs. Auck- land were in no great hurry, but never looked in any trouble. The innings was anchored by the Yorkshireman Pamment, who scored 51 not out as Auckland cruised to 124-5, recording their second consecutive win and keeping themselves in with a chance of taking the fourth semi final spot.
