Date-stamped : 11 Jan94 - 22:30 Shell Cup : Round 6, 6 Jan 94 Central Districts v Wellington, QEII Park, Masterton. Jan 6. Queen Elizabeth II Park Masterton provided an excellent batting pitch and the match of the round in warm sunny conditions. CD continued its good run, but it only scraped in with the number 11 at the crease. The Wellington side batted well in their fifty overs, but suffer- ed through nobody going on to reach 50. A lot of players made useful contributions, with opener Aiken making 42 and in the mid- dle order Mather made 33 and Kerr made 35. No bowlers stood out, but a good team performance meant that Wellington's total was not unattainable on this wicket. CD started badly on their chase for 226, losing their fourth man at 53. Brown (47) and Garner then put on exactly 100 runs, and the match was in the balance. Garner continued to hit out, but was out for 87 with wickets run- ning out fast. Lamason then played sensibly, but at the other end nobody could stay with him, and with one over to go six runs were needed with two wickets in hand. A run out occured, and the no 11 also had to be sent back in a hurry, but Lamason kept his head to hit the winning runs for his side. Well done the man from Wangan- ui!
