Date-stamped : 12 Jan94 - 18:31 NZ SHLCUP : Round 7, 9 Jan 94 Auckland v Northern Districts, Eden Park, Auckland. Once again coach Karl Treiber had to take he field, as the injury ravaged Northern Districts side overcame their problems to easily beat the disappointing Aucklanders. ND now share the lead with CD and Canterbury, while Auckland are firmly rooted at the bottom of the ladder. 37 year old Barry Cooper and skipper Grant Bradburn provided the backbone of the Northern innings of 227. As in the last game their contributions were vital, and their scores (61 and 49) were identical to their Blake Park efforts. Test bowler Murphy Su'a made an excellent comeback with 5-42 as only Tait with 37 offered much late resistence. The score though always seemed competitive. A 66 run opening stand by Reinholds (41) and Spearman (32) was wasted by a middle order collapse as Auckland staggered to 93-5. Despite the later efforts of Barnes (33) and Wiseman (24), ND was untroubled to win by 31 runs. Cooper and Bradburn completed their dominant all round performances with 2-35 and 0-22 from their respective 10 overs. Contributed by Jason (jmas@waikato.ac.nz)
