Date-stamped : 06 Jan94 - 18:32 NZ Shell Cup : Round 1, 27 Dec 93 Wellington v Auckland, Basin Reserve, Wellington. After the early loss of Austen, Jones and McHardy put on 84 for the second wicket. In the middle stages of the innings however Vaughen (2-24 off 10) and Haslam (0-25 off 10) bowled accurately to tie down the Wellington batsmen. Their final total of 186-9 was always going to be inadequate, but burly Yorkshireman Pamment, who had performed poorly in the four day matches, played an awesome innings to put the result beyond doubt. Williams took 1-33 from his 10 but the rest of the bowlers were unmercifully hammered as Pamment scored 105 not out and the Aucklanders won by nine wickets. Contributed by Jason (jmas@waikato.ac.nz)
