Both teams have collected one point each. The umpires m/s. P D Reporter and S K Sharma decided to start the match at 1110 hrs and the overs were reduced to 37 a side with 10 minutes interval. The match was reduced to 37 overs a side when the umpires decided to start the match after inspecting the pitch and ground condi- tions three times this morning. Zimbabwe won the toss and put South Africa into bat but after nine overs, rain interrupted the match, forcing the players to leave the field and disappointing a sparse crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Skipper Kepler Wessels and Andrew Hudson opened the innings for South Africa but Hudson was soon in trouble against the fair amount of pace generated by the Zimbabwe quickies, David Brain and Heath Streak. Skipper Wessels showed good temperament and technique against the Zim- babwean attack. his two square drives to the boundary off heath Streak's bowling were a treat to watch. Hudson, on the other hand, did not look comfortable against the Zimbabwe duo, particu- larly against David Brian, who beat him thrice in his third over. Stephen Peall dropped what would have been a brillant catch at mid-on off Brian's bowling but in the next ball Hudson was trapped leg before by Brian. The wicket fell with the South Afri- can score on 18 in the ninth over when it started raining. Vice-Captain Hansie Cronje joined his skipper only to face the last ball in the ninth over. he cleverly capitalised on a loose ball and despatched it to the boundary before a strong drizzle drove the players back to the pavilion. The umpires, who in- spected the pitch one more time, at around 1315 hours, ultimately decided to abandon the match as the ground was left unplayable due to soggy conditions. ====> MORE Teams: South Africa: Kepler Wessels (capt), Hansie Cronje (vice-capt), Allan Donald, Daryll Cullinan, Brian McMillan, David Callaghan, Petrus de Villiers, Andrew Hudson, Craig Matthews, David Richard- son, Jonathon Rhodes.
