Date-stamped : 17 Jan94 - 10:53 WI Red Stripe, T & T v Leeward Islands, 14-16 Jan 94 T&T squad was without Simmons (thumb injury) and Ken Williams (hit on the head - they did not say if it was during T&T's first game or during practise). When T&T batted first, they were bun- dled out for 99. At one point, they were 14/4. Brian Lara made 2! Anil Balliram was hit on the toe (left foot) by Ambrose. Lee- wards Islands made 392 in their 1st Innings with Keith Arthurton making 93 and Livingston Lawerence made 56. When I tuned in to the telecast on Sat., I was able to see Lara bowling! I was not sure what he was bowling (medium pace or spin), but with his 3rd delivery, he bowled Lawerence. Ambrose, batting at the other end, was on 29 when we lost the signal. When T&T batted a second time, facing a deficit of 293, they were bowled out for 183. Lara made a defiant 84. He started slow (ac- cording to the commentators and this was evident when I was watching) but soon opened up and was playing a typical Lara knock. Ambrose bowled him a vicious lifter which he just managed to evade on its way to Jacobs. He was out going for a big drive off Philip, but he edged the ball onto his stumps. He was VERY disappionted to get out that way, He looked like he did not want to leave. Balliram, batting with a runner, hung around for a while but it was apparent that he was in pain and it was no surprise when he went to a catch in the deep off Philip (me thinks). Arthurton came on to bowl his left-arm "spin" and he got 2 wickets! In fact, he got 2/10. With Lara and Balliram gone, it was just a matter of time and the match ended about 45 min. be- fore close of play with Leewards winning by an innings and 110 runs.
