Date-stamped : 14 Jan95 - 06:28 Nottinghamshire v Worcestershire At Nottingham, 29, 30 Apr, 1, 2 May 1993 MATCH TIED The season began with Nottinghamhire`s first ever tie in first- class cricket and Worcestershire`s first since 1939. Pick, suffering from a badly bruised foot, missed the third day`s play, on which he became the father of a son. He returned to be at the centre of the drama. He was beaten by Seymour`s accurate throw from the suqare-leg boundary and just failed to complete the second run that would have given Nottinghamshire victory off the last available ball. The last pair had needed five when Newport began the final over. Earlier, 20-year-old Alex Wylie had shown plenty of raw pace though he collected only one wicket, when French fell on his stumps trying to hook and bruised his should- er. He was unable to keep wicket and Pollard took over. Both sides found runs easier to get in the second innings: Curtis watchfully steered Worcestershire towards a declaration, batting two minutes short of six hours for his 113 and then setting a target of 296 in 87 overs. Randall began his final season with a flourish, and timed the ball exquisitely in the early stages. But both he and Nottinghamshire lost their way later and Newport bowled Worcestershire back into the contest to set up the finale. Thanks: 1994 Wisden Contributed by cp (help@cricinfo.com)
