Date-stamped : 06 Feb95 - 10:56 CC 1993: DERBYSHIRE v LANCASHIRE, Derby, 24 - 28 June 1993 LANCASHIRE WON BY 111 RUNS No Derbyshire match had aver produced so many runs, the aggregate of 1,497 passing the 1,391 between Derbyshire and Essex at Ches- terfield in 1904, but the conclusion was startling. On the final afternoon, when Morris was 151 and his team 243 for two, Wasim Akram took six for 11 in 49 deliveries. Although the umpires in- spected the ball regularly, Derbyshire were sufficiently con- cerned about its condition to send it to the TCCB. No action was judged necessary at Lord`s but the incident, with its suggestion of tampering, raised the temperature for the Benson and Hedges Cup final a fortnight later. Cork was ordered out of the attack in Lancashire`s first innings for running down the pitch, while Atherton and Wasim Akram scored accomplished centuries. Barnett responded with a fine 161 and then Lancashire`s declaration set Derbyshire 379 in 86 overs. While Morris was batting with rare brilliance - he hit 23 fours and a six in 176 balls - they had a chance. However, when he became Wasim Akram`s first victim of the match, the end was unexpectedly near. Thanks: 1994 Wisden Contributed by cp (help@cricinfo.com)
