Date-stamped : 20 Feb95 - 10:42 CC 1993: LANCASHIRE v KENT, Lytham, 26-30 August 1993 KENT WON BY 159 RUNS Day 1, 26 Aug 1993: Mark Ealham and Steve Marsh made their highest scores of the season to rescue Kent from quick bowler Wasim Akram. Ealham (85) and acting captain Marsh (63) led Kent from 116-6 to 263 all out with a century stand as the Pakistan fast bowler grabbed 5-69. It was Wasim`s fourth five wicket haul of the season. In reply Lancashire lost opener Gehan Mendis to finish the day on 38-1. Day 2, 27 Aug 1993: Lancashire captain Neil Fairbrother hit his highest county championship score of the season. But the 75 he took off the Kent attack at Lytham only underlined what a disap- pointing season it has been both for him and his team. Fairbrother`s effort helped Lancashire to a total of 328 and a lead of 65 but it was John Crawley who caught the eye with 78. Kent were 9-0 at the close. Day 3, 28 Aug 1993: Troubled Lancashire let Kent off the hook at Lytham as the visitors reached 389-7 after struggling badly. Lan- cashire with five defeats in their last six games had been well on top with Kent at 123-5 only 58 ahead before Carl Hoop- er led the recovery. The West Indian was unbeaten on 147 with a six and nine fours off 184 balls and was supported in a seventh wicket stand of 156 by Mark Ealham (79) Day 4, 30 Aug 1993: Kent`s 23 year old left arm spinner Min Patel grabbed a career best 7/75 to demolish Lancashire at Lytham. Lan- cashire slumped to their sixth defeat in seven games when they were bowled out for 203 having been set a formidable target of 363. Carl Hooper`s 166no set Kent up for the 159 run win before they declared at 427/8. It left Lancs with little hope of ending their nightmare run.
