Felton`s 105, scored in 227 minutes off 219 balls with 15 fours, guided the home side to 335-6 from 110 overs. Felton and Rob Bailey (59) shared a second wicket stand of 111 in 40 overs and Bailey became the first Northants batsmen to pass 1,000 runs this season. Day 2, 27 Aug 1993: Allan Lamb again demonstrated his liking for Leicestershire`s bowlers with a superb 162 as Northamptonshire stacked up the runs. Lamb`s century was his sixth against Leicestershire in the championship and guided Northants to 467. The visitors, boosted by a second wicket stand of 81 between Tim Boon (84 not out) and James Whitaker (44), replied with 173-2 off 71 overs. Day 3, 28 Aug 1993: Northamptonshire`s faint hopes of overhauling championship frontrunners Middlesex are still alive after they claimed maximum bonus points. And to help their cause they forced Leicestershire to follow on after reducing them to 307, 24 runs short. At the close the visitors were 136-3 and facing a final day defeat despite Tim Boon`s defiant knock of 110 in 273 minutes during the first innings. Day 4, 30 Aug 1993: Ben Smith proved the stumbling block for Northants` bowlers as Leics earned a draw at Northampton which clinched the championship title for Middlesex. Smith defied Allan Lamb`s men for four hours 20 minutes hitting a gallant 84 to en- able the visitors to declare at 5.20pm on 344, a lead of 184.
