Date-stamped : 20 Feb95 - 14:46 CC 1993: WARWICKSHIRE v WORCESTERSHIRE, Edgbaston, 26-30 Aug 1993 WORCESTERSHIRE WON BY 10 WICKETS Day 1, 26 Aug 1993: Worcestershire maintained their late chal- lenge for championship prize money by reducing Warwickshire to 206 on a slow Edgbaston pitch. The damage was chiefly done by Chris Tolley (3-29) and former England all-rounder Phil Newport (3-49). Left with 19 overs to bat Worcestershire openers Tim Curtis (13) and Martin Weston (17) reached 31 by the close. Day 2, 27 Aug 1993: Worcestershire wicketkeeper Steve Rhodes hit an unbeaten half century to give his side the initiative in the derby match at Edgbaston. Rhodes came to the wicket with Wor- cestershire struggling at 118 5 in reply to Warwickshire`s 206 but by the close they had recovered to 243-6. Rhodes reached an unbeaten 63 as he shared in stands of 48 with Damian D`Oliveira and 77 with Phil Newport. Day 3, 28 Aug 1993: A second successive century by Steve Rhodes put Worcestershire in charge against their Midlands rivals. The Yorkshire born wicketkeeper made 101 in five hours as Worcestershire`s last five wickets yielded 279 runs. From 118-5 they reached 397 all out. They then grabbed three quick wickets including two catches by Rhodes as Warwickshire knocked 104 off a first innings deficit of 191. Day 4, 30 Aug 1993: Worcestershire enhanced their chances of a county championship top three finish by romping to a 10 wicket win over Warwickshire in the Midlands derby Former England duo Richard Illingworth (4/55) and Phil Newport (4/38) did most of the damage as Warwicks, who resumed at 104/3, were dismissed for 201.
