After a first day wash out Phil Bainbridge (calf strain) and Melvyn Betts (flu) were both forced to leave the field in the afternoon. After slipping to 107-4, Richard Har- den led the Somerset recovery with 82 not out as they reached 273-5 at the close. Day 3 - 18 Sep 1993 England`s Andrew Caddick grabbed 6-73 including 5-44 in his open- ing spell to force Durham to follow on at Hartlepool The home side were reduced to 66-6 before 19-year-old Jimmy Daley rescued the innings with a classy 73. By the close they had reached 84-2. Earlier Somerset took their total from 273-5 to an all out 352 with skipper Richard Harden reaching his 100 off 186 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Day 4 - 20 Sep 1993 Superb bowling from Graham Rose and Mushtaq Ahmed helped see Somerset to their eighth win of the season and a final champion- ship position of fifth. For skipper Richard Harden it meant a cheque for GBP 3,500 while Durham were again left with the wooden spoon. Rose took 5-46 including four wickets in 18 balls to bowl out the hosts for 258.
