Gloucestershire let their advantage slip after Chris Broad (45) and Simon Hinks (66) had shared an opening stand of 98 in 32 overs. Leg spinner Salisbury the sixth bowler used by skipper Alan Wells finished the day with 4-43 from 17 overs. Day 2 - 17 Sep 1993 Neil Lenham struck an attractive 105, his second century of the season, as Sussex reached 202-4 in reply to Gloucestershire`s 304. Lenham hammered 16 fours off 163 balls in a stay of 203 minutes before being trapped leg before by Courtney Walsh shortly before the close. Recalled England wicket keeper Jack Russell hit 49 not out for Gloucs with Ian Salisbury taking 5-81. Day 3 - 18 Sep 1993 England leg spinner Ian Salisbury grabbed 4-99 and veteran Eddie Hemmings 3-46 to put Sussex in control against Gloucestershire at Hove. The visitors, 51 behind on first innings, reached 72-1 at tea before collapsing to 177 for eight and go into the final day only 126 ahead. Martin Speight earlier hit his third century in seven innings as Sussex were dismissed for 355 just after lunch. Day 4 - 20 Sep 1993 Sussex ended their season in emphatic style by crushing Gloucestershire by 10 wickets at Hove. Former England opener Bill Athey hit an unbeaten 57 against one of his former clubs as Sussex set just 127 to win eased home shortly after lunch. The day had began badly for the visitors with their last two wickets falling for no runs in three deliveries from West Indian Franklyn Stephenson.
