Date-stamped : 22 Mar95 - 10:33 CHALLENGER TROPHY Final: India v India A Eden Gardens, Calcutta, 21 March 1995 India won the toss and elected to bat. As usual, Tendulkar gave the charge to Mhambrey while Prasad managed to contain him some- what. Utpal replaced Mhambrey in the 4th over. Prabakar gave him the charge and holed out to Bahutule trying to repeat his 6 ear- liear. Kambli entered the scene and the pair played some delightful strokes. The bowlers had no answer until Bahutule was brought into the attack. Of his first ball Sachin tried to hit him out of the ground but managed only to find Dravid at long on -- he it seems had underestimated Sairaj`s ability. Kambli con- tinued his aggression until a seemingly wide bowl fron Sairaj turned a couple of yards to castle his stumps. From then on it was Sairaj against the batsmen and he managed to take the wickets of Azhar and Jadeja. India scored 225 thanks mainly to the early aggression of Sachin and Kambli. India A came to bat with a possible chance of an upset. Rathore started well as usual and played some beautiful strokes. This fired up Srinath and he removed Rathore and Dravid of successive balls. From then on the match was effectively sealed. The A bats- men had lost confidence. Robin scored 29. Chauhan and Chater- jee batted mainly for personal glory, never really taking a chance. Possible inclusions for the Asia Cup : Ankola, Rathore and Bahu- tule/ Kulkarni. Only Raju and Kapoor are questionable for Shar- jah trip. Contributed by boori (u3716274@au.ac.th)
