Date-stamped : 04 Dec94 - 14:27 4 Nation Mandela Cup Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Match #2 Centurion Park, Verwoerdburg, 4 November 1994 Pakistan score 245 for nine against Sri Lanka and won by 12 runs A powerful opening partnership between Saeed Anwar and Aamir Sohail helped lift Pakistan to 245 for nine from their 50 overs in their Mandela Trophy match against Sri Lanka at Centurion Park on Sunday. Sohail followed his century against the Sri Lankans in Durban on Friday with a fluent 67 from 94 balls and Anwar fin- ished with 57 as the pair put on 130 for the first wicket. A score in excess of 300 looked on the cards until both were dismissed in successive overs. Sohail was superbly caught and bowled in the 28th over by Muttiah Muralitheran, who was again on hand in the next to take a running catch to remove Anwar. Salim Malik survived his now customary let-off at the start of his innings when wicketkeeper Pubudu Dassanayake fumbled a simple stumping chance. But when he was run out by a direct hit from Sanath Jayasuriya for 20, only Inzamam-ul-Haq made much headway against some tight Sri Lankan bowling. Inzamam worked hard for his 62, which included four fours and a six. He eventually fell to a catch behind the wicket off Chaminda Vaas, who finished with three for 46 from his eight overs. Earlier, for Sri Lanka, Aravinda de Silva scored 95 runs. Pakis- tan spinners kept Sri Lankan batting under control. Akram Raza gave only 22 runs in 10 overs. Amir Sohail took three wickets for 46 runs. Source :: Reuter Contributed by vicky (vigneswa@sisko.ecs.umass.edu)
