Date-stamped : 12 Mar95 - 14:34 Master Cup: England v Australia Brabourne Stadium, Bombay, 8 March 1995 ENGLAND BEAT AUSTRALIA TO REACH MASTERS CUP SEMIS English veterans beat their Australian counterparts by 14 runs here Wednesday to set up a Masters Cup semi-finals clash with In- dia. England, who will meet India here Thursday, recovered through an unbroken 50-run stand for the ninth wicket between Neal Radford and John Emburey to knock 2 68 for eight in the alloted 45 overs. Derek Randall, 44, made a fine half-century to hold the middle order together but was bowled out for 62 by Graham Yallop. Eng- land then experienced a collapse before Radford and Emburey shared a brisk stand in six overs to swing the match. Chasing an asking rate of 5.75 runs an over, Australia were never in the hunt, although most of their batsmen made good scores. English spin twins Derek Underwood and John Emburey bowled well and were backed by scint illating fielding. But the Australians also found stroke-making difficult as the pitch played slow and low. Australia finished with 254 for five in 45 overs and crashed out of the last four stage like Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The West In- dies will play South Africa in the other semi-final on Friday, with the final slated for Sunday. Contributed by vicky (vigneswa@sisko.ecs.umass.edu)
