Date-stamped : 28 Jul94 - 18:40 Pakistan v SL Board President's XI, Matara, 23 Jul 94 ====> Day 3, 25 Jul 94 Bowler prompts protest - By Ihithisham Kamardeen Pakistan will lodge an official complaint with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board about what they regard as the suspicious bowling action of off-spinner Jayananda Warnaweera. "An off-spinner can- not deliver at the speed of a medium-pace man. He's throwing. It is unfair," said captain Salim Malik after the three-day tour opener ended in a draw at Matera. "I told the umpires to watch him closely. But their reaction was, since he has played overseas and was not called for throwing, they cannot." Malik was on the receiving end of Warnaweera's "throwing", being struck on the body twice as he made an unbeaten 77 in the Pakistanis' 250 for six declared. His 125-ball innings included eight fours. Opener Saeed Anwar top-scored with a fluent 95, which included two sixes and five boundaries, in 267 minutes off 166 balls. He missed a century when he was caught at extra cover off spinner Ruwan Kal- page. The President's XI replied with 46 for three as the first of two three-day matches between the sides ended in a tame draw. Rain on the first two days reduced the match to just four ses- sions.
