Date-stamped : 27 Feb95 - 10:50 Zimbabwe v Pakistan, ODI 3 Harare, 26 February 1995 Zimbabwe crush Pakistan to draw one-day series Dynamic fielding and tight bowling enabled Zimbabwe to draw the one-day series against Pakistan with a convincing 74-run win with 6.5 overs to spare in the third and final match on Sunday. Chasing 223 for victory, Pakistan made a solid start but lost their way after Inzamam-ul-Haq was out for 45 to make the score 106-4 in the 33rd over. Pakistan were also troubled by injuries. Aamir Sohail was un- able to bat after being stretchered off the field earlier in the day with a torn back muscle and Wasim Akram was forced to bat last because of an injury to his right hand. Zimbabwe pacemen Heath Streak and Bryan Strang bowled econom- ically at the start but it was 39-year-old Malcolm Jarvis who re- moved both openers, Moin Khan (eight) and Shakeel Ahmed (36). Leg-spinner Paul Strang had Salim Malik caught for three and then dismissed Inzamam and Ijaz Ahmed (12) in successive overs after they threatened to take a hold on the game. He finished with three for 42 from his 10 overs. Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower got his his side off to a good start with a fine 73, including three fours, from 104 balls. He added 104 with Mark Burmester (39) for the second wicket and then batted freely with Dave Houghton (34) to put on 52 in 10 overs. At 171 for two with 11 overs to go, Flower and Houghton ap- peared to be steering Zimbabwe to a total of 260 or more. But three wickets fell in seven balls and Zimbabwe were res- tricted to 222 for nine. Flower was named man of the match for his 73 and his excel- lent wicketkeeping that included two catches and a stumping. Pakistan wicketkeeper Moin Khan took five catches to equal the world record held by seven others. The first match of the series ended in a tie and Pakistan won the second by four wickets.
