Despite resting four of their frontline players, Sri Lanka restricted Canterbury to just 164 for nine from their 50 overs. On a pitch that offered early assistance to the seamers, Canter- bury struggled throughout after losing two quick wickets. Only former international Chris Harris topped 30, his 31 helping put on 49 for the seventh wicket with captain Lee Germon, who made 22. All of the Sri Lankan bolwers impressed, particularly offspinner Ruwan Kalpage, who collected three for 20 from his full comple- ment of 10 overs as he made his first appearance on the tour for one month. The tourists, with stand-in captain Aravinda de Silva marking his return to form with an unbeaten 58 from 90 deliveries, reached their target with plenty to spare in just in 40.1 overs. Sri Lanka started boldly in their run chase and were 75 for three after just 15 overs. In a minor mid-innings hiccup, two wickets fell on 99 before Hashan Tillekeratne and de Silva saw the Sri Lankans home.
