LANCASHIRE v SOMERSET: Southport
Wasim Akram demolished Somerset at Southport with his best ever
bowling performance for Lancashire. The Pakistan star returned
figures of eight for 30 in 16.4 overs as the visitors, 136-5
overnight, slumped to 160 all out after just 29 minutes. The in-
nings and 88 run win was Lancs' first in the Championship this
season but the agony goes on for Somerset who lost for the eighth
time in nine games.

Wasim Akram demolished Somerset with a career best 8-30 as Lan-
cashire cruised to victory at Southport. The Pakistan ace topped
the 8-68 he claimed against Yorkshire last season as Lancashire
won by an innings and 88 runs. Wasim grabbed five for nine in 28
balls when play resumed, starting with Robert Turner who was
trapped lbw for a duck. It was Lancashire's first Championship
win and Somerset's eighth defeat in nine games.
MIDDLESEX v WARWICKS: Lord's
West Indies star Brian Lara continued to rewrite the record books
as this match ended in a tense draw. Lara made 140 to help
Warwickshire reach 306-5 declared to become only the eighth bats-
man to make six centuries in seven innings. The 25 year old hit
22 fours and a six as Middlesex were set a victory target of 269
off 50 overs. Tim Munton took 5-76 as the hosts' hung on at 245
for 9.
LEICS v KENT: Leicester
Part time off spinner Peter Hepworth had career best figures and
Gordon Parsons snapped up four wickets as Leicesters cruised to a
140 run win. Hepworth finished with 3-30 to set up
Leicestershire's third championship victory of the summer. Kent
tumbled from 126-4 at tea to 189 all out. Earlier Phil Robinson
hit 78 as the hosts declared on 281-5 to leave the visitors' a
329 victory target.
WORCS v NORTHANTS: Worcester
Mal Loye's first century of the season and a withering burst by
Curtly Ambrose marked Northamptonshire's escape to a draw with
Worcestershire at New Road. Loye made an unbeaten 107 and shared
in century partnerships with Kevin Curran and Tony Penberthy as
the visitors made 357-6 declared. Ambrose put the frighteners on
Worcs when he took two wickets in four balls but the hosts
reached 57-2 at the close.
SUSSEX v GLAMORGAN: Hove
Jamie Hall, skipper Alan Wells and Franklyn Stephenson hit half
centuries as Sussex drew with Glamorgan after being set a victory
target of 320. Three balls remained when stumps were drawn at
Hove with Sussex 60 short on 260-6. Glamorgan still seeking
their first championship win, earlier declared at lunch on 187-4
with skipper Hugh Morris hitting 53.
GLOUCS v SURREY: Gloucester
Darren Bicknell put together his 21st century before Surrey
snatched a last ball win over Gloucestershire. Wicketkeeper Jack
Russell aimed at the stumps as Cameron Cuffy played and missed at
Courtney Walsh but he missed by six inches and Cuffy scampered
home. Alec Stewart's side had been left to get get 354 in 90
overs. Bicknell made 129 and some wayward bowling that resulted
in 55 extras helped them along.
