Date-stamped : 09 Aug94 - 22:31 Nat West Trophy Semi-finals, 9 Aug 94 At the Oval, Worcs beat Surrey by 7 runs. Worcs 357/2 in 60 overs (Curtis 136* Moody 180*) Surrey 350ao in 59.5 overs (D.Bicknell 89, Thorpe 49 (run out), Brown 52, Hollioake 60) Surrey were in a seemingly hopeless position until Hollioake cut loose with 60 off 36 balls (4x4, 4x6!). Going into the final over they still needed 22, and if Moody had not held a lofted shot by J.Benjamin on the boundary off the 5 ball, they would've made it too! Moody's 180* is a record one day score by a Worcs batsman (in this competition) and a record for anyone in either the Sunday League or the NatWest competitions, beating Gordon Greenidges 177 some years ago, against 1st class opposition. Gooch holds the highest B&H score of 198 not out. His partnership of 309 with Tim Curtis (136no), unbroken in 186, seems to be the record partnership for all domestic 1-day com- petitions anywhere in the world, and larger than any Internation- al 1-day partnership. At Edgbaston, Warwicks beat Kent by 8 runs. Warwicks 265/8 in 60 overs (Moles 105* Twose 49 Lara 29 Reeve 23) Kent 257ao in 59.5 overs (T.Ward 80, Taylor 64, Hooper 44; Munton 2-31) Kent needed around 60 off the last 10 overs, with 5 wickets standing. Good Warks fielding, some highly variable bowling by Reeve, and a fair amount of silly cricket by Kent ensured a repeat of the B&H final.
