VAAS TO MISS SHARJAH TOURNAMENT

Sri Lanka`s star pace bowler Chaminda Vaas is to  miss the  Shar-
jah  cricket  tournament  next  week and will be replaced by fast
bowler Wendell Labrooy, cricket officials said on Friday.

Vaas has been forced to skip the event due to  a  back injury  he
suffered during the recent triumphant tour of Pakistan, where Sri
Lanka won both the Test and one-day series.

Labrooy is the only newcomer in  the  14-member  squad picked for
the  Champions Trophy tournament from October 11 to 20.  Pakistan
and the West Indies are also playing in  the triangular contest.

A   P Gurusinha, C Hathurusinghe, H P Tillekeratne, S T Jayasuri-
ya, R S Kalpage, R S Kaluwitharana, K  Dharmasena,   M  Mu-  ral-
