Date-stamped : 15 Oct95 - 14:25 3NAT-SHJ Match #3: Pakistan v West Indies Sharjah, 13 October 1995 Pakistan score second victory - Bandula Molligoda Pakistan chalked up their second victory in the three-nation Singer Champions Trophy when they beat the West Indies by 15 runs at the Sharjah Stadium here today. On Thursday they beat Sri Lanka by 82 runs. The West Indies who were chasing a big Pakistan score of 243 to win were bowled out for 227. After a blistering stand between Campbell and Lara for the second wicket, off-spinner Saqulain Mushtaq struck for Pakistan getting rid Lara with his first ball and then following with the wickets of Holder, Browne and Cummins. None of the West Indian batsmen could get going against a varied Pakistani attack well handled by skipper Ramiz Raja. Campbell and Lara looked threatening but were out to injudicious shots and with it went any chances the Windies had of making a match of it. FORMIDABLE Pakistan who won the toss and elected to bat first were rescued by a 141-run stand min for the fourth wicket which helped them to finally make a formidable 242 for 4. At one stage Pakistan were floundering at 49 for three with Sohail 10, Elhai 9 and Anwar 18 back in the pavilion with the score on 49. It was then that the two exciting right handers, skipper Rameez Raja and Basit Ali put their heads down, got on top of the bowl- ing and began their rescue act. GALLANT CENTURY Rameez Raja who was in poor form against Sri Lanka in the Test and one-day series, came back into form at the right moment and stroked a gallant century - 104 not out with 7 fours and a six. Raja was playing his 164th match and it was his ninth one-day three figure score. He is now ahead of Javed Miandad and Anwar who each have hit eight centuries. Basit Ali gave his skipper good sup- port to score 64. He had a six off Simmons. The ball cleared the stadi- um and was lost and the umpires had to use a replacement ball. THREE SIXES After Basit Ali went wicket keeper Moin Khan raced to 27 in 10 balls. He was particularly severe on paceman Ian Bishop hitting the bowler`s final over for 27 - the last three deliveries sailing out of the ground for sixes.
