Date-stamped : 16 May95 - 10:26 SUNLG: Derbyshire v Yorkshire, Chesterfield, 14 May 1995 Derbyshire cave in without fight - Neil Hallam Yorks (167-7) bt Derbys (108) by 59 runs FOR the fifth time in a week Derbyshire`s batting proved to be a house of straw when the wolf came to call, a combination of inadequate technique and lurid misjudgment ensuring that the 168 target was well beyond them. The lemming tendency apparent in a meagre sequence which had yielded totals of 120, 135, 140 and 134 in their four previous innings was evident again as they subsided feebly for 104 to lose by 59 runs with 7.2 overs to spare - their fourth defeat in seven days. There was some life in the Queen`s Park pitch for those bowlers able to detect the right length but nothing to excuse the ripe sequence of misjudgments which began with Dominic Cork miscuing to square leg and Tim O`Gorman perishing with an airy waft on the back foot. Chris Adams, having lured Kim Barnett into the first of three run-outs, lofted the in-form Peter Hartley to the mid- wicket boundary and Derbyshire were in familiar free-fall mode when Phil DeFreitas fell fishing at a wide one and Colin Wells`s failed to stifle a flighted ball from Paul Grayson. Hartley, who had taken nine for 41 in the previous day`s cham- pionship win, ended with two for seven from six overs. Yorkshire, having lost the toss, also began badly when David Byas top-edged a pull and were again in need of retrenchment when Al- lan Warner broke through with a spell of three for five in four overs. Michael Bevan, Craig White and Michael Vaughan all followed Warner`s away swing and Grayson forced to square cover before Richard Blakey joined Darren Gough to take the target beyond Derbyshire`s currently rather limited scope.
