Date-stamped : 26 Jul95 - 10:27 SUNLG: Glamorgan v Warwickshire, Cardiff, 23 July 1995 Warwickshire dented Glamorgan`s hopes of consolidating at the top of the table and put themselves into contention with another ex- emplary performance at Sophia Gardens yesterday. After losing their first three games Warwickshire have reeled off seven successive wins and are well placed to retain the second of the three trophies they won last season. At 162 for four, with six overs remaining, Glamorgan were in con- trol, but accurate bowling and brilliant fielding, backed up by Dermot Reeve`s astute captaincy, thwarted their efforts. The Welsh county lost their last six wickets for only 20 runs as Reeve and Neil Smith, who was entrusted with eight of the final 16 overs, forced Glamorgan`s batsmen into indiscretions. Warwickshire had been in trouble at 108 for six but some ill- directed bowling towards the end of their innings yielded 45 runs from four overs, including 15 from Hamesh Anthony`s final over. Warwickshire, who were put in, were given a brisk start and although Neil Smith was out in the 10th over, Nick Knight (80), celebrating his England call-up, and Dominic Ostler added 45 in eight overs. However, at 89 for one, after Warwickshire had laid the founda- tion of a substantial total, Robert Croft and Steve Barwick in- duced the mid-innings collapse.
