Date-stamped : 21 Aug95 - 14:30 SUNLG: Lancashire v Yorkshire, Old Trafford, 20 August 1995 Yorkshire doomed by Chapple burst - Brian Bearshaw Lancashire (210-7) beat Yorkshire (174-9) by 36 runs THREE wickets in Glen Chapple`s opening five overs paved the way for Lancashire`s ninth Sunday league win and maintained their challenge for the title. He removed Martyn Moxon, David Byas and Michael Vaughan, and with Ian Austin quickly removing the dangerous Michael Bevan, Yorkshire were 47 for four in the 11th over. It was all over, a disappointing dish to set before an enthusiastic crowd of 11,286. Warnings about what might happen to anybody guilty of bad language, obscene chanting and drunkenness were followed by the announcement that G Stand would be non-alcoholic for the after- noon. Needless to say, G Stand, which holds fewer than a thousand, was the most sparsely populated area on the ground. The high spot of Lancashire`s 210 for seven was another fine in- nings by the tireless Neil Fairbrother, who scored an unbeaten 60 in 58 balls to hold the middle of the innings together. Little wonder he received #1,567 in a collection for his benefit. Fairbrother regularly pierced the field, teased the bowlers and scuttled the ones and twos while batting for an hour and a half. Yorkshire did not remotely threaten to recover after Chapple`s opening burst, despite an unbeaten 53 from Richard Blakey.
