Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat but soon lost both openers, Jason Pooley hitting his wicket and Paul Weekes being run out. But Mark Ramprakash, celebrating his 26th birthday and his selection for the England tour party, hit his first Sunday League century of the season, his 103 coming off 118 deliveries. In reply Richard Montgomerie and Alan Fordham compiled an opening partnership of 55 in 11 overs but Northants subsided to 116 for four before Mal Loye`s late flurry ensured victory.
