Date-stamped : 04 Sep95 - 10:29 SUNLG: Nottinghamshire v Hampshire, Trent Bridge, 3 September 1995 Chris Cairns contributed a 75-ball century for Nottinghamshire, but his team`s dismal finish to the season continued as Hampshire successfully chased a target of 240 at Trent Bridge to win by five wickets. The New Zealand all-rounder hammered six fours and six sixes in his 98-minute innings. But the Notts bowlers could not match Cairns` efforts as Hampshire cruised to victory with seven balls to spare. Openers Sean Morris and Jason Laney laid the foundations for the Hampshire win with half-centuries in an opening stand of 119 off only 20 overs. Both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession by Usman Afzaal but Paul Whitaker kept the momentum going with an unbeaten 41 as Notts were punished for some wayward bowling and sloppy fielding. Nottinghamshire have awarded a county cap to wicketkeeper-batsman Wayne Noon, who has been a regular since taking over from former Test player Bruce French at the beginning of the 1994 season.
