Date-stamped : 13 Jul95 - 22:29 Tour Match: Minor Counties v West Indies Reading, 13 July 1995 Dean has West Indies reeling - Ralph Dellor Minor Counties (270-6) bt West Indians (266-9) by 4 wkts STEVE DEAN, who was man of the match after scoring 146 for Eng- land NCA against Young Australia 10 days ago, won the accolade again when he came within nine runs of taking a century off the West Indian attack as the Minor Counties achieved a notable vic- tory. The West Indies batsmen were soon put on the back foot by some disciplined bowling, notably from former Derbyshire seamer Paul Newman. Having beaten Sherwin Campbell more than once outside the off stump, he forced the opener too far back so he trod on his wicket. Two balls later, Richie Richardson edged a catch to the wicket- keeper and the West Indies were 22 for two in the 11th over. Marcus Sharp replaced Newman to claim Jimmy Adams, Brian Lara and Carl Hooper. The West Indies total looked vulnerable if the Minor Counties could get any sort of a start. That was provided by Dean and Lau- rie Potter before Potter was stumped while attempting another six to add to the one he hoisted off Rajindra Dhanraj earlier in the over. Stuart Laudat offered Dean some support before Mark Fell helped him add 107 for the third wicket in 21 overs.
