Date-stamped : 04 Sep95 - 10:28 Tour Match: Yorkshire v West Indies, Scarborough, 3 September 1995 Tourists finish in defeat - Andrew Collomosse Yorkshire (253-4) bt theWest Indians (242) by 11 runs YORKSHIRE got home with four balls to spare to win the McCain Challenge Trophy and ensure that the West Indies tour ended on a fittingly upbeat note. The rancour engendered by the tourists` part in the tame draw between the teams in the opening game of the Festival evaporated on a day of rich entertainment. A crowd of nearly 5,000 bade a rousing farewell to Richie Richardson and his men while offering the warmest of welcomes to two of Yorkshire`s great white hopes. In only his seventh first-team game, England under-19 batsmen An- thony McGrath underlined his enormous potential by scoring a cen- tury off 102 balls that provided the platform for Yorkshire`s 40-over total of 253 for four. The West Indians` reply was undermined by an opening burst from fast bowler Gavin Hamilton that brought him the wickets of Stuart Williams, Sherwin Campbell and, crucially, Brian Lara for eight runs in the space of 17 balls. Richardson, with a 51-ball half-century, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ottis Gibson, whose 41 off 36 balls included three sixes, kept the tourists in the chase until, with 17 required from the last two overs, Craig White removed Ian Bishop and Gibson in the space of four balls.
