Date-stamped : 29 Dec96 - 18:13 28 December 1996 Streak fined for utterances Zimbabwe strike bowler Heath Streak was fined $630, 15 per cent of his match fee, for giving an unauthorised Press Statement which criticised the umpiring during the first cricket Test in Bulawayo which finished on Sunday, reports Jahoor Omar. Don Arnott, the chief executive of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union, said yesteday that the fine was imposed by match referee Hanumat Singh of India after a hearing on Thursday. Streak, said the statement released to the Press, con- travened Section 8 of the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct which states: "Players and officials shall not make any public pronouncement or media comment which is detrimental either to the game in general or to a particular tour in which they are involved or about any tour between other countries which is tak- ing place or to relations between the Boards of the competing teams." In an interview with the Englaish tabloid, the Daily Mirror, earlier this week, Streak is quoted as saying the umpires were lenient in not penalising Zimbabwe`s bowlers for bowling wide during the second innings in the drawn encuonter.
