Date-stamped : 03 Dec96 - 06:13 3 December 1996 Doody Named Captain Brad Doody will captain the Canterbury Country cricket team in a match against Mid-Canterbury at Greendale on December 7 and 8, provided he is not required for the Canterbury Shell Cup squad. If Doody is unavailable, John Hamilton will join the team and take over the captaincy. Chris Rowe, the convener of the senior selection panel, said the match against Mid-Canterbury and another against South Canterbury on December 14 and 15 would be used to give players a chance to secure places in the team for the Fuji-Xerox qualification matches later in the month. The team for the Mid-Canterbury game is: Simon Edwards, Wayne Bell, Brad Doody or John Hamilton, Mark Paterson, Harley James, Chris Fleming, Drydon Thompson, Dean Serra, Brent Lewis, Sam Broomhall, Liam Donnelly. An Emerging players team to play Nelson Emerging players at Nelson on December 7 and 8 has also been named. It is: Geoff Walford (captain), David Culpin, Nathan Jones, Tom Frey, Brendon Donkers, Callum Davidson, Alastair Wilson, Simon Murphy, Andrew Wilson, Daniel Barclay, Marcus Lewis or Chris Dellit. The Canterbury Country team to play in the South Island under-19 tournament from December 15 to 17 has been named.
