Date-stamped : 14 Dec1998 - 20:30 11 November 1996 Sydenham only unbeaten team in one-day contest Sydenham became the only unbeaten team in the Trust Bank Cup one-day cricket competition when it ended Riccarton`s winning streak on Saturday. The fifth round match between the two unbeaten sides typified the day with low scoring prevalent after morning showers, while favoured teams generally faltered. Riccarton collapsed spectacularly losing its last six wickets for just four runs, all out for 120 to fall 25 runs short of Sydenham`s score. Riccarton had seemed handily placed at 116 for four with Rob- bie Frew batting impressively, but after his dismissal the in- nings was shut down by Todd Harris and Chad Romano who each took three wickets. At one stage Sydenham had struggled at 28 for four until Carlos McGillivray, Richard Casutt, and Chad Romano gave the innings some stability. Opening bowlers Phil Monk and Darren Walker each took three wickets. The best figures of the innings were carded by veteran David Stead, who was called in to help fill the absence of bowlers Craig Bateman, Neil Maxwell, Stu Gambles, and Gary Stead. Stead bowled his 10 overs for just 13 runs. Woolston beats reigning champion Reigning champion East Christchurch-Shirley fell apart against Woolston WMC, losing by 54 runs at Garrick Park. After restricting Woolston to 137 for nine from its 50 overs, East slumped all out for 83 in 39.3 overs against a demanding home attack. Woolston`s innings was masterminded by a controlled half century from stalwart Anup Nathu, who adapted to the difficult condi- tions well, facing 124 balls. He anchored the innings after Woolston lost wickets early, three to young fast bowler Ryan Burson. The East batsmen were unable to counter the four-pronged Wools- ton attack with Chris Bell, Stephen Gibson, Anthony Timpson, and John Stuart all playing their part. Stuart`s off-spinners were especially difficult to score off. His first four overs were maidens with two wickets. Burnside West wins shortened match Old Boys, which is also a favoured side, succumbed to Burnside West-University in a match cut back to 30 overs, because of rain at Burnside Park. Old Boys slumped from 56 for one to 120 all out against a steady Burnside West attack. The home side then handled Old Boys` strong pace attack ca- pably, winning in the 29th over with five wickets in reserve. Mark Hastings played a leading role. Tolley helps Lancaster Park Lancaster Park kept Marist without a win so far with English im- port Chris Tolley playing a dominant all-round role at Ensors Road. Tolley, from Nottinghamshire, top scored with 45, marked by some fluent driving. He shared an opening stand of 66 with Neville Perkins, who reached 41 as Park reached a competitive 178 in the 43rd over of the 46-over game. Then Tolley with his left-arm medium-pacers claimed three wickets to support fellow medium bowler Scott Garven, who cap- tured four to bundle Marist out for 95. The fifth match between Old Collegians and St Albans at Ilam was washed out without a ball bowled. There were no covers to protect the wicket.
