Date-stamped : 24 Oct96 - 14:12 24 October 1996 Talented teen fails to save Northern Neal Parlane emerged from the shadow of his older brother, Micha- el, for Northern Districts against the New Zealand Cricket Academy at Burnside Park yesterday. Parlane, 18, scored 112 not out, but his outstanding effort was not enough for Northern Districts which fell 47 runs short in its chase of the Academy`s 247 for six from 50 overs. Parlane, opening with Michael, who has already played several seasons for Northern Districts at Shell series level, is also a talented opening bat and earlier this year was a member of the New Zealand Youth team to England. Parlane was the only batsman to top 20 in the Northern innings scoring his runs from 164 balls with six fours and four sixes. The ND batsmen were constrained by some accurate pace bowling from David Sewell, Kerry Walmsley and Shayne O`Connor, while the wicket also took some turn which Nathan Morland exploited. Earlier, the Academy had batted consistently with guest player Gary Stead, Greg Loveridge and Craig McMillan all get- ting into the 40s. Short scoreboard: New Zealand Academy 247-6 (G Stead 48, G Loveridge 45, C McMillan 43, N Morland 26no, S Lynch 20; D Vet- tori 2-38) beat Northern Districts 200-7 (N Parlane 112no, ex- tras 22; K Walmsley 2-29, S O`Connor 2-36) by 47 runs.
