Date-stamped : 06 Oct96 - 14:12 From The Press October 03, 1996 Astle hits century in warm-up The Willows Cricket Club provided a perfect setting for a 50-over cricket game between two sides comprising a mix of full New Zealand and New Zealand Academy players yesterday. New Zealand medium-fast bowler Chris Pringle bowls at the Willows Cricket Club yesterday. While some batsman struggled with their timing others, notably Nathan Astle, Adam Parore, Craig McMillan, Bryan Young, Stephen Fleming, Mark Bailey and Chris Cairns stroked the ball attractively. Astle (112) and Parore (65) shared a 183-run partnership in only two hours with 68 of Astle's runs coming in boundaries. Bowlers were not as prominent on the day but Danny Morrison, Simon Doull, Dipak Patel, David Sewell, Gavin Larsen and Peter Kennedy had tidy spells. Injury troubled opening batsman Blair Pocock dispelled any doubts about his fitness by talking full part in the game. He looked comfortable in the field but not at the crease where he only managed four runs in a brief stay. Short scoreboard: Larsen's XI 252-7 (Astle 112, Parore 65, McMillan 36 not out, Morrison 2-33, Doull 2-43) beat Lee Germon's XI 235-7 (Cairns 48, Bailey 46, Young 43, Fleming 35, Astle 2-4, Larsen 2-39) by 17 runs.
