Date-stamped : 11 Feb97 - 22:14 28 November 1996 Chandler, Hotter Star In Wellington Win WELLINGTON -- Wellington captain Roger Twose enthused over the performances of Phil Chandler and Stephen Hotter yesterday after the 10-wicket demolition of Shell Trophy cricket champion Auckland at the Basin Reserve. While all-rounder Richard Petrie had a splendid game with seven wickets and a typically forthright innings of 45, the results enjoyed by left-handers Chandler and Hotter were vital to their prospects of reviving their careers. Chandler, 24, reversed a depressing end to last summer with a match-winning innings of 177. His previous highest trophy score had been 45. Hotter missed the last trophy season when there were complications after a knee cartilage operation. The fast-medium bowler stormed back with seven wickets in an impressive comeback. "Phil showed himself to be a player of the future with an innings of considerable maturity," Twose said. "He showed intelligence, skill, and discipline. Phil hit the ball superbly off the front foot, and he's developed a greater range of shots." Twose said Hotter, 26, was showing a stronger attitude, and predicted the injury-prone bowler would continue to prosper provided he had no further mishaps. Auckland was bowled out just after lunch for 246, Petrie collecting his 100th first-class wicket when he dismissed the last man. With the scores tied, Wellington needed just one run for victory. -- NZPA Source :: The Christchurch Press (http://www.press.co.nz) Contributed by The Management (help@cricinfo.com)
