Date-stamped : 15 Jan97 - 02:14 14 January 1997 Historic Loss For Canterbury by Geoff Longley The Canterbury women's cricket team suffered its first one-day loss in 15 seasons when soundly beaten by Auckland by 46 runs at the national women's tournament in Auckland yesterday. Batting first, Auckland benefited from a fine opening stand of 101 between Lossie Harford and Shelley Fruin. An attacking 52 by Emily Drumm enabled Auckland to post a competitive 211. The Canterbury chase began well with Debbie Hockley and Trudy Anderson taking the score to 81 before Hockley played across a ball from Drumm. With her demise the batting fell apart. The exception was Nicola Payne with 23.
